OUR COMPANY: BIOAPI

OUR COMPANY: BIOAPI

Bioapi is a company which manages and promotes the bee-friendly campus at which the course will be held. We have been working with bees for over 30 years. Our company has been certified organic since 1994. We are pioneers in organic and natural beekeeping, as we are one of the first bee farming companies to become organic in Italy. We have always worked towards a more environmentally- and bee-friendly business. During these years we have consulted with and assisted more than 100 beekeeping businesses in the conversion to organic bee farming and we have helped more than 500 people to open their own organic and natural beekeeping companies. Our bee-friendly campus offers the first training in Italy that is focused on the environment and the biodiversity safety. We work with University Research Institutes and research associations, as well as travel around the world to certify companies and their organic methods.

WHERE

WHERE

The course will be held in the Natural Reserve of Monti Rognosi nearby Anghiari. This medieval town is situated in the mountain range of the Tuscanian Apennines. Lectures will take place inside the Natural Park Museum, La Fabbrica della Natura, and the practical sessions will be in our apiary, the queen fecondation station, and our honey-processing laboratory. For the entire duration of the training we will be surrounded by fields of medicinal plants, pastures and woods. You will also have the opportunity to explore the Apennines’ landscape by hiking in the mountains or by just relaxing on the grass.

WHO IS IT FOR?

WHO IS IT FOR?

Our training is developed for professional beekeepers, hobbyists and even beginners. It is for everybody! The course will be managed in a way that all the participants wil l gain a lot of knowledge and experience on organic and natural beekeeping and how to run an organic beekeeping business. Moreover, if you are a woman and you would like to start working with bees but you are afraid of the physical effort required to do it - don’t worry! We have developed a new way of doing beekeeping especially for women which will allow you to get into this beautiful profession without any problems. Half of the training will be held in classroom to deliver theoretical knowledge, and during the other half of the course you will have the opportunity to put your new knowledge into practice in our apiary, honey processing laboratory, and queen fecondation station. This way, you will receive the chance to get in contact with the bees right away and as well as immediately start practicing the techniques that will be taught in the course. If you are a beginner, you will be able to develop confidence and trust to aid you in working with these little magnificent insects.

WHY YOU SHOULD APPLY

WHY YOU SHOULD APPLY

This training offers a broad knowledge on the history of beekeeping, bee biology, the technologies applied in honey (and other product) processing, organic and natural practises, apiary management, queenbee evaluation, breeding and fecondation, and the promotion of your company and products. At the end of the training you will be able to manage swarming, produce artificial swarms, produce your own queens, start your organic bee farming business, and most importantly be able to save your bees from diseases. Every single technique will be presented in class first and then you will be able to try it on the field supported by us and our facilitation. This way, when you are back home, you will be confident and able to work with your bees and manage your business. Every technique that you will learn during this 10 day training is designed to be respectful towards our bees. Our main objective has always been to create a “bee-friendly” beekeeping practice that works with honeybees and not against them. We are aware of how climate change, human malpractices, diseases, and all the factors that are causing Colony Collapse Disorder are threatening the survival of our precious pollinators. We are here to change all of it. What are you waiting for to be part of this change?

She developed two community gardens in Bolzano and she created and coordinated the Sustainability Festival 2016. She is currently the head of the queen breeding and rearing program in our company. She is really interested in chemistry because she is keen to understand how and why natural processes occur.
